Kris Allen is a saxophonist, composer and educator, who was born and raised in the Hartford, Connecticut area. While still in high school he was named the top high school jazz musician in the US by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Kris went on to earn music degrees at the Hartt School and Purchase Conservatory, and has subsequently performed alongside and/or recorded with many jazz legends such as Illinois Jacqet, Gerald Wilson, and Curtis Fuller, as well as modern stars such as Steve Davis, Andy Laverne, and Kevin Mahogany. Kris is on the faculty of the Hartt School of Music, and Trinity College. He can presently be heard at major jazz venues as a sideman with Kendrick Oliver and the New Life Orchestra. He is featured on the recently released " Steeplechase Jam Session Volume 15" available on Steeplechase records. Kris has been a resident artist at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2001.

“One of the most charismatic figures on tour today.” New York Times. Karrin Allyson is a multi-Grammy nominated jazz vocalist with her 11th album Imagina: Song of Brasil, out in March, 2008. Born in Kansas and raised in Omaha, Karrin grew up playing classical piano and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at UNO. Once she fell in love with jazz she moved to Kansas City to perform regularly and in 2000 she moved to NYC. As a band leader, vocalist and pianist, Karrin Allyson brings a breadth of experience, depth and fun to all her performances – passing this love of jazz on to students is something she is thrilled to do. Karrin has taught at the Stamford Jazz Camp and Janice Borla Jazz Camp, been a vocal adjudicator at the Montreaux Jazz Festival and given master classes at the International Association for Jazz Education Conference and countless universities and performing arts centers all over the US and abroad. Alvin R. Atkinson, Jr. (drums) grew up singing and playing music alongside his parents who were the directors of the gospel choir at their church and his love of jazz began with a Stan Getz and Elvin Jones recording. His many performances include an international tour with The Rhythm Road, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jazz Ambassador-tour sponsored by the Kennedy Center, various jazz festivals, on television for Emeril Live and even the White House. He has worked with Nnenna Freelon, Paquito D’Rivera, Benny Green, Ellis Marsalis, Jimmy Health, Roy Hargrove, Frank Wess, Vanessa Rubin, Wycliffe Gordon and many others. He teaches for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Middle School Jazz Academy, offers private instruction at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and is a former adjunct professor at the University of Manitoba and UNC Wilmington. Dave Ballou   Dave Ballou

Dave Ballou, a composer and trumpet player, has released eight internationally recognized CD's as a leader for the SteepleChase record label and has performed or recorded with ensembles led by Maria Schneider, Andrew Hill, Dave Leibman, Joe Lovano, Sheila Jordan, Steely Dan, and many others. He has performed with ensembles such as the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Spokane Symphony and Boston Modern Orchestra Project. His work for solo trumpet, "Samskara" was commissioned by Jon Nelson of the Meridain Arts Ensemble. He earned a BM (magna cum laude) from Berklee College of Music in 1986 and a MA from the University of New Hampshire in 1991. Louise Baranger   Louise Baranger

Louise Baranger was born in Hollywood, CA and studied with studio trumpeters Uan Rasey, Pappy Mitchell, and jazz great Bobby Shew. In Los Angeles she played with the bands of Harry James, Nelson Riddle, Bill Berry, Jack Wilson, and Ray Anthony. She has played at the Playboy, Concord, Kansas City, Boston, Sedona Jazz on the Rocks, and Monterey Jazz Festivals, and performed live and/or on television with JJ Johnson, Clarke Terry, Plas Johnson, Buddy Collette, Ron Carter, John Pizarrelli, Joe Cocker, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Womack, Carmen McRae, Alan Broadbent, Buddy Greco, Barney Kessel, Mel Powell, and many others.

In the summer of 1984, Louise was the youngest member of the Los Angeles Olympic Jazz Festival house band which featured Shelley Manne, Louie Bellson, Bill Holman and a host of international jazz stars. Louise's 9 piece "little" big band has played at the Emmy Awards in Hollywood, CA, The Millenium New Year's Eve Celebration at Boston's Symphony Hall, and numerous private events in the US, Europe, and Japan. Her own CD, Trumpeter's Prayer features Arturo Sandoval, Tom Kubis and Carl Fontana. Rogerio Boccato  

Rogerio Boccato

Rogerio Boccato is a Brazilian percussionist, drummer and educator who holds a BM in Composition from The State University of Campinas (Brazil), where he taught Drum set and “Rítmica” until he relocated to the New York area.  He was also a member of the Jazz Symphony Orchestra of the São Paulo State since its began in 1990. With the Orchestra he played with Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cláudio Roditi,  Joe Zawinul, Dionne Warwick and more. As a sideman he has played with Dave Stryker, David Berkman, John Benitez, Dena DeRose, Arturo Sandoval, and with top ranking Brazilian artists. Rogerio played percussion on Kenny Garret’s most recent release, “Beyond The Wall” which was nominated for a 2007 Grammy for Best Instrumental Jazz Album.  He is a guest percussion faculty member at the Hartt School of Music. He has also been presenting clinics on Brazilian music, focusing on the traditional Brazilian rhythms and styles applied to the drum set and to Jazz combo. Paul Bollenback

Paul Bollenback's emotionally expressive style and eclectic approach is the result of years of listening, studying and playing music by Carlos Santana, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Kenny Burrell, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Jimi Hendrix. Bollenback attended the University of Miami as a music major. He later studied privately for eight years with Baltimore-based professor of Theory/Composition Asher Zlotnik. In 1997, Bollenback was named Musician of the Year at the Washington Area Music Awards, and became an Adjunct Professor of Music at the American University in Washington, DC. In addition to his continued associations with Gary Bartz, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joey DeFrancesco, Joe Locke, and East Meets Jazz, Paul continues to tour with his own groups.

Recent performances include the Blue Note in Fukuoka, Japan, the Blue Note In New York City, Le Club in Moscow, the Newark Museum and the Rochester Jazz Festival. He teaches at Queens College, the New School and at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Paul has appeared on the Tonight Show, Good Morning America, Joan Rivers, The Today Show, and Entertainment Tonight. Don Braden has toured the world with jazz greats Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Williams, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Haynes, and many others. He has recorded nearly fifty CDs as a sideman and fourteen as a leader. His latest record as a leader, released in March 2006 on HighNote, is "Workin’– The Don Braden Organic Trio" recorded live at Cecil’s Jazz Club in June, 2005. As a composer, he has created scores for albums, independent films and for Bill Cosby’s projects,“Cosby,” "Little Bill,” and “Fatherhood.” In 2000, he was honored with a Doris Duke Foundation New Works award. He works extensively as an educator, teaching for Litchfield Performing Arts, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, North Netherlands Conservatory in Groningen, Holland, and at William Paterson University. Luques Curtis   Luques Curtis

While still in elementary school, bassist Luques Curtis performed with the great Chucho Valdes on baby bass in a Manhattan club. Now, after graduation from Berklee College of Music, he is developing a reputation as one of the most versatile and in-demand bass players on the scene. His most recent honor was a 2007 Grammy Award for his contribution to the Bryan Lynch/Eddie Palmeri album "Simpatico."

He performs with his brother pianist Zaccai Curtis as a member of the bands Insight (appearing on the 2007 Litchfield Jazz Festival) and Rhythmic Prophesy. He tours internationally with the Donald Harrison Quintet, The Ralph Peterson Sextet, the Gary Burton Quintet, the Christian Scott group, Sean Jones, the Fort Apache Band, and many others. He has studied with Dave Santoro, Andy Gonzalez, Carlos Del Puerto, John Lockwood, Ron Mahdee, Mickey Bass and Volkan Orhan. Claire Daly

Claire received her degree from the Berklee College of Music. After graduation she anchored the sax section in the Diva Big Band for 7 years and recorded 5 CDs with the brilliant, quirky composer/pianist Joel Forrester and their band "People Like Us." She then released two CDs as leader on Koch Jazz (now re-released on Dalybread Records), and a new release of her own called "Heaven Help Us All" (Dalybread Records). She has backed up Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney among many others. In the fall of '05, Claire began a new long-term project tracking down some of the hidden treasures of the jazz world, interviewing them on video and plans an eventual documentary. She is currently working with human beat box Napoleon Maddox and bassist Joe Fonda with "IsWhat?!", melding hip hop and jazz. Claire was the DownBeat baritone critic poll winner in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Mike DiRubbo

A native of New Haven, Connecticut, DiRubbo began clarinet studies at age nine, and took up the alto a few years later. He attended Notre Dame High School where he subsequently won the school’s Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. After receiving a scholarship to the prestigious Hartt College of Music, he studied under the tutelage of alto sax giant Jackie Mclean. He has worked with artists such as Steve Davis, Joe Farnsworth, Eric Alexander, Jim Rotundi, Harold Mabern and Cecil Payne. DiRubbo later moved to Brooklyn, New York, and became a member of pianist Michael Weiss’ highly regarded sextet. DiRubbo has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and in Israel. Jimmy Greene

Born in Hartford, CT, Jimmy Greene exhibited an affinity for music at a young age. Beginning to play the alto saxophone at the age of six, Greene formed his first quintet while in high school, and began composing music soon thereafter. While in High School Greene meet and played for Jackie McLean at the Artists’ Collective. Greene continued his studies at the Hartt School graduating cum laude. Greene was honored in June 1999 issue of Down Beat magazine as one of “25 Young Rising Stars in Jazz”. He tours and record extensively, most notably with Harry Connick, Jr., Tom Harrell, Claudia Acuña, and Lewis Nash. Greene was recently named the winner of the prestigious ASCAP / IAJE Commission in honor of Ornette Coleman, awarded the 2005 Artist Fellowship in Music Composition by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism and chosen as a winner of the 2004 New Works: Creation and Presentation Grant for jazz composition awarded annually by Chamber Music America. Winard Harper

Winard Harper has been the leader for a vibrant sextet for almost a decade. The group now appears regularly all over the United States from the Kennedy Center to Yoshi's, legendary West Coast jazz club. Harper's first major gig was with Dexter Gordon when he was just 20. This led to a four-year stint with Betty Carter's band. During the 1980's he laid down the foundation for what would eventually become The Harper Brothers band. It was so popular, that it once held the #1 spot on the Billboard chart for two solid months. Winard continues to be one of the most sought after drummers in jazz today, leading his hard-swinging sextet and working with Dr. Billy Taylor, Ray Bryant, Wycliffe Gordon, Frank Wess and Jimmy Heath. Pianist Andy Jaffe is Lyell B. Clay Artist in Residence and Director of Jazz Activities at Williams College and Artistic Director of the Williamstown Jazz Festival. An active jazz composer, performer, and recording artist, Jaffe has been a leader in jazz pedagogy for over 25 years, at Berklee, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Tufts, and Smith College. He has appeared as a guest artist and conductor across the US and abroad, in the Slovak Republic, New Zealand, Malta, Germany and elsewhere. He recently premiered a work for Jazz Quartet and String Quartet for saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his quartet, with The Ciompi Quartet and Tabla player Samir Chatterjee.

His text "Jazz Harmony" (Advance Music) is now being prepared for its third edition, and his newest book "Something Borrowed, Something Blue" (also Advance) is scheduled for release in '09. Recordings of his original compositions and arrangements have featured Branford Marsalis, Wallace Roney, Thomas Chapin, and Richard Stoltzman. Steve Johns was born in Boston, MA and began playing the drums at the age of nine. Steve has studied with Alan Dawson, Bob Gullotti, Fred Buda and Vic Firth. Johns graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied classical percussion. In the spring of 1982, Steve moved to New York City. There he began working with Joe Locke, Ralph Moore, Bill Evans, Steve Slagle, Conrad Herwig, Vincent Herring, Kevin Eubanks, Dennis Erwin, Dave Stryker, Benny Green and others.
As well as having a busy performance schedule, Mr. Johns has taught at the Vermont Jazz Center, The Jazz In July Program at UMass, The Thelonius Monk Institute in Aspen Colorado, Williams College in Massachusetts and is currently an adjunct instructor at Montclair State University. Virginia Mayhew has been an active player on the New York jazz scene since 1987. She has worked with renowned artists like Earl "Fatha" Hines, Cab Calloway, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Norman Simmons, Al Grey, Junior Mance, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Doc Cheatam, Joe Williams, Clark Terry, Kenny Barron, Chico O'Farrill, Al Grey, and as a member of the Duke Ellington Legacy Band and the Claudio Roditi Group. She appears regularly at major New York City jazz clubs and at festivals including Monterey, JVC, San Francisco, San Jose and more. Virginia has been a US Jazz Ambassador, visiting Southeast Asia and demonstrating Latin and Brazilian influences on jazz. She is an experienced clinician and has been Artist-In-Residence at UMass, Bloomington U, and other institutions. She has half a dozen records as a leader. Peter McEachern

Peter McEachern, a Connecticut native, has toured and recorded three CDs for Polygram with Blues legend Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown; has worked and recorded with minimalist composer Lamonte Young, and is featured on several important CDs: Insomnia with the Thomas Chapin Trio on Knitting Factory Works and Song for Septet with the Mario Pavone Septet on the New World Countercurrents label. Song for Septet was chosen one of the "Top Ten Jazz CDs of 1995" by The New York Times. He received a fellowship for music composition from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts in 2001. Currently he is on the faculty of the Indian Mountain School, The Academy of Music and Art in Hartford. He conducts the Jazz Ensembles at The Berkshire Music School, The Nutmeg Conservatory and Region 7 High School and is a busy freelance artist in the tri-state area. Peter Madsen  

Peter Madsen

Peter Madsen was born in Racine, Wisconsin where he began his classical piano studies at the age of eight and double bass at the age of ten. In 1978, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in Music Education, after which he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to concentrate on developing his jazz piano skills through intensive practice and a bursting schedule of gigs, composing and teaching. In 1980 Peter moved to New York City. He got one of his many breaks when Stan Getz hired him to tour Europe and the U.S. in 1987. For the past ten years Peter has had a duo with Austrian bass virtuoso Peter Herbert performing entirely original compositions and teaching workshops around Europe and Japan. Peter is now living part-time in New York and part-time in Vorarlberg, Austria. He continues to perform worldwide as well as teaching master classes, workshops and private students. Albert Rivera

Mario Pavone has been on the NY scene for almost forty years. He began playing bass in the early sixties studying with the world famous Bertram Turetzky and got his first big break in 1964 with pianist Paul Bley. During this period he played with Archie Shepp, Bill Dixon, Anthony Braxton and many other. In the 70's Mario formed his own record company called Alarca. He worked extensively in the late 70's and 80's in the New Haven, Connecticut area, with musicians like Jane Ira Bloom, Ray Anderson, Anthony Davis, Gerry Hemingway, Mark Helias, Leo Smith and many others. By 1975, he was a founding member of the New Haven, Connecticut-based Creative Music Improvisers Forum (CMIF), which produced concerts and recordings that gave musicians more control over their own music. In addition to his ongoing activities as a bandleader, Pavone's artwork and photography have graced the covers of dozens of recordings since the mid 90's, and he currently serves as an educator and board member for Litchfield Performing Arts. Jeremy Pelt   Jeremy Pelt

Jeremy Pelt graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1998 and promptly moved to New York City.  His first professional Jazz gig was playing with the Mingus Big Band.  Since then he  has played with jazz greats such as Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess, John Hicks, Ralph Peterson, Nancy Wilson, Bobby Short and many others.  Jeremy has been featured in a variety of bands and is currently a member of the Lewis Nash Septet, and The Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes.  Pelt's major focus is on writing music for each of his three bands: Creation, Noise and The Jeremy Pelt Quartet.  His work earned him a write-up in the Wall Street Journal by legendary Jazz writer and producer Nat Hentoff.  He was voted Rising Star on the Trumpet two years in a row by Downbeat Magazine and the Jazz Journalist Association!!  Jeremy has been a resident artist at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2007. www.peltjazz.com  Photo Credit: Jimmy Ryan

Valery Ponomarev   Valery Ponomarev

Russian born trumpet player, composer and educator Valery Ponomarev has toured all over the world. He played and recorded with Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers for four years. Mr. Ponomarev has performed at major concert halls, clubs, and festivals all over the world. In 1990 he returned to Russia to participate in the First International Jazz Festival in Moscow. He had not been to Russian in seventeen years. Since then he has traveled to Russia regularly to perform with Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Vincent Lewis and many others. Mr. Ponomarev has recorded six albums as a leader and many others as a sideman. In addition to being a private instructor Mr. Ponomarev has taught at the Vermont Jazz Workshop, North Netherlands Conservatory in Groningen, Holland, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, New School and LI University. The development of a true jazz singer is a long-range prospect, laden with learning experiences that forge the voice into a true instrument, rich with passion, deeply invested in living through life’s joys and perils; such is the journey of jazz vocalist, Vanessa Rubin. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she has performed and recorded with Monty Alexander, Frank Foster, Lewis Nash, Houston Person, Herbie Hancock and Toots Thielemans to name a few. In addition to performing, Vanessa Rubin is a lyricist, composer, producer, arranger, educator and music student adjudicator. She was honored by the International Association for Jazz Education for Outstanding Service to Jazz Education and has been engaged by such auspicious institutions as the Thelonious Monk Institute, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. Dave Santoro   Dave Santoro

Dave Santoro, a native of Connecticut, is active in both the New York and Boston jazz scenes. He has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia as a sideman with many of the most prominent artists in contemporary jazz. Dave has performed and recorded with Jerry Bergonzi, the Bob Brookmeyer / Clark Terry Quintet, Tom Harrell, Brad Mehldau, Dick Oatts, John Scofield, the Village Vanguard Orchestra and many more. His own quartet, The Dave Santoro Standards Band, has recorded three CD’s on the Double-Time record label. Throughout his career, he has appeared on over 30 recordings with various artists. Dave is currently a full-time professor at Berklee College of Music. He also has upcoming tours scheduled for 2007 including the Canary Islands, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, and the UK. Baritone saxophonist Lauren Sevian has been performing professionally since the age of 12, first on the piano, then on the saxophone. At the age of 16 she won the Count Basie Invitational soloing competition, which led to a feature performance with the Basie Band. Lauren came to New York in 1997 to attend the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. She is a regular member of the Mingus Big Band, JC Hopkins Biggish Band and has also performed with the Mingus Orchestra, Mario Pavone's Septet, Kendrick Oliver and the New Life Jazz Orchestra, Diva, the Artie Shaw Orchestra and others. Lauren appeared in the Hollywood movie production Mona Lisa Smile and has done numerous recording projects & jingles with Ada Rovatti & Elephunk, Blue Man Group, Greg Osby and Joan Osbourne. Lauren is also married to a Litchfield favorite – Mike DiRubbo!

Avery Sharpe    Avery Sharpe New at Litchfield Jazz Camp

An excellent bassist, Avery Sharpe is best known for his longtime association with the McCoy Tyner Trio. He originally played piano (starting when he was eight) and accordion, switching to electric (and eventually acoustic) bass a few years later. At the University of Massachusetts, Sharpe had the opportunity to study with Reggie Workman, and he gigged with Wynton Marsalis and Pat Metheny. Sharpe first teamed up with McCoy Tyner in his early-'80s sextet, and has been a member of the pianist's trio since 1984. Neil Smith   New at Litchfield Jazz Camp Neal Smith

A player from the age of 5, Neal Smith was the first African-American to earn a degree in Jazz Studies from Oberlin Conservatory. Today, Neal performs with his own ensemble and with internationally recognized artists like Tom Harrell, Anita Baker, Geri Allen, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Owens, Eddie Harris, Isaac Hayes, Gary Bartz, Benny Golson, Donald Harrison, Frank Morgan, Brian Lynch, Benny Green, Cyrus Chestnut, Frank Foster, Dewey Redman, Mark Whitfield, Ronnie Mathews, Rufus Reid, Wendel Logan, James Moody, Marlena Shaw, and Vanessa Rubin. He maintains a rehearsal studio in New York City where he hosts master-classes and clinics. He has also founded his own jazz record label, NAS. Dave Stryker

Dave Stryker grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to New York City in 1980. After establishing himself in the local music scene, he joined organist Jack McDuff's group for two years 1984-85. From 1986-1995, Stryker played with the legendary saxophonist Stanley Turrentine at all the major festivals, concert halls, and clubs throughout the world. With Turrentine, Stryker was able to play with such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie and Freddie Hubbard. He has recorded and published over 70 of his own compositions. Dave continues to perform with his working unit The Stryker / Slagle Band as well as his other projects: The Blue to the Bone Band, The Shades Project (w/ Lenny White), and his latest group Trio Mundo featuring Manolo Badrena on percussion and vocals and Andy McKee on bass. Joris Teepe   Joris Teepe

Joris Teepe is a bassist from The Netherlands. Mr. Teepe came to New York in 1992 and quickly met many musicians and within a year recorded his first CD, co-led by Don Braden and featuring Cyrus Chestnut, Carl Allen and Tom Harrell. He is now a bassist in great demand and he has been working with the "who is who in Jazz" from Benny Golson to Randy Brecker to Rashied Ali. He has recorded 8 albums as a leader. He also established himself as a composer, record producer, educator (director of Jazz Studies at the Hanze University, instructor at the “Jazz For Teens” program at NJPAC) and bandleader. Jack Walrath, Grammy™ nominated trumpeter-composer-arranger and writer, has played with scores of influential musicians including Charles Mingus, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Quincey Jones, Elvis Costello, Bobby Watson, Joe Lovano and many others. He has appeared in films, TV and Radio, has been featured in practically ever major jazz magazine, and is currently writing a book which will highlight his experiences with Charles Mingus as the leader of the Mingus Dynasty and the Charles Mingus Big Band for the last four years of the great bassist’s life. Walrath has released 22 record albums as a leader and appeared on countless albums with others. Walrath graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1968. He has conducted workshops and master classes all over the world as well as the U.S. Jack has been a resident artist at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2007. www.jackwalrath.net

Mark Whitfield   Mark Whitfield

Fresh out of a scholarship stint at Berklee College, guitarist Mark Whitfield hit New York like a thunderstorm, appearing with Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Jack McDuff, Betty Carter, Carmen McCrae, Joe Williams, Wynton Marsalis, Stanley Turrentine, and many more. In 1990, The New York Times called him "The Best Young Guitarist in the Business. “ He went on to record on major labels and expand his interest to popular collaborations with superstars like Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, George Benson, B.B. King, Quincy Jones and others. His work can be heard on television and in films. An original composition appears on the soundtrack of the feature film, “One Night Stand” starring Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr. Mark is currently on tour with Chris Botti and teaching at the Berklee College of Music. Rachel Nicolazzo (aka Rachel Z)   Rachel Z
Piano

Manhattan-born and raised Rachel Nicolazzo (aka Rachel Z) came from a musical family. Her mother was an opera singer and she encouraged Rachel to sing and take classical piano lessons at a very young age. In her teens she began veering away from classical music and focused on jazz. The catalyst was listening to Herbie Hancock's harmonies over Wayne Shorter’s compositions. She went on to study with Joanne Brackeen and Richie Beirach. Rachel graduated from the New England Conservatory then returned to New York in the late 80’s where she worked with Najee, Al DiMeola, Mike Mainieri, Wayne Shorter and many more. She played on Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album, “High Life.” She has also released six albums as a leader.
