3: Vanessa Rubin
The development of a
true jazz singer is a long-range prospect, laden with
learning experiences that forge the voice into a true
instrument, rich with passion, deeply invested in living
through life’s joys and perils; such is the journey of jazz
vocalist, Vanessa Rubin. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio,
she has performed and recorded with Monty Alexander, Frank
Foster, Lewis Nash, Houston Person, Herbie Hancock and Toots
Thielemans to name a few. In addition to performing, Vanessa
Rubin is a lyricist, composer, producer, arranger, educator
and music student adjudicator. She was honored by the
International Association for Jazz Education for Outstanding
Service to Jazz Education and has been engaged by such
auspicious institutions as the Thelonious Monk Institute,

What Vocal Students are saying:
"It was amazing how much I learned -- how I could develop into a
better musician in such a short time. As a vocalist, you can't find
that kind of strictly jazz training anywhere."
-– Allegra Levy,
Vocalist, Age 15, West Hartford, CT
"...things came out of me I didn't know I was capable of."
-- Karin Slomp, Vocalist, Age 21, Groningen, The Netherlands
