Our new program, Litchfield regional combo classes, just completed its first session with a great concert at the world famous Gershwin Hotel in New York. We are all set to begin our spring session, led by veteran Jazz Camp faculty member and baritone saxophonist Claire Daly in New York and pianist Jen Allen and saxophonist Kris Allen in Hartford, CT.

Included in student tuition is a 3-day festival pass for each student, master classes with festival stars and a performance opportunity for each student on a dedicated Student Stage we call our "Gazebo Stage." Organized Jam Sessions will take place between Main Stage acts all weekend long. The Jam Sessions allow students who attended the camp in Sessions 1, 2 and 3 to perform on the festival. Most students who attend Session 4 will be scheduled to perform with their Session 4 Combo. Session 4 students are also welcome to participate in jam sessions, but priority is given to students whose combos could not be reformed for the festival.

NEA Jazz Master, saxophonist Jimmy Heath, is the 2011 Guest Artist. He's slated to spend the day at camp on Thursday, July 28th (Session 3). He'll observe and add his thoughts to classes in the morning, then give a master class for the whole camp in the afternoon. He then returns Sunday, August 7th at the Litchfield Jazz Festival for an Artist Talk with the Festival's Artist-in-Residence, Matt Wilson, AND closes the festival with his Big Band at 7pm that evening.

We're proud to announce that Delfeayo Marsalis will be a LJC Guest Artist on Saturday, July 24th. He'll give a master class in the afternoon and a performance and conversation with the audience, "Jazz is Cool" at 7:30pm that evening.

One of the most exciting and virtuosic guitarists in jazz, Pat Martino will join LJC as a special guest artist on Thursday, July 22 (Session 2). He began playing guitar when he was twelve years old and left school in tenth grade to devote himself to music. An amazing career and life, Pat Martino survived a severe brain aneurysm and miraculously returned to music. He will give a master class for the all Litchfield Jazz Camp students the Thursday of Session 2.
